Pedestrian hit by van, critically hurt

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A woman is in critical condition after being hit by a van while apparently crossing a street, according to police.

Fort Wayne Police Department spokesman Michael Joyner said officers responded to the intersection of Calhoun Street and McKinnie Avenue around 12: 20 p.m.

Calhoun and McKinnie pedestrian struck

When officers arrived, they found a woman unresponsive and suffering multiple injuries, Joyner said. She was transported to a hospital.

Joyner indicated preliminary findings suggested the woman was crossing Calhoun Street and was hit by a van headed south.

Investigators were documenting the scene and interviewing the driver of the van. It’s unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor at this time, according to Joyner.

The incident remains under investigation by the FWPD and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
