NOBLE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) Emergency responders pulled the body of a man being served an arrest warrant out of a river Thursday night.
According to the Noble County Sheriff’s Department, around 7:20 p.m. deputies were serving the warrant at 7298 N. 525 W. in Wawaka, which is just off of State Road 6. When officers knocked on the door, Raymond Lee Cassidy, 35, ran outside.
He headed towards Little Elkhart River, but as officers followed, they broke through the ice and stopped pursuing him.
The sheriff’s department said immediately EMS and fire departments from Ligonier, Orange Township and Albion were called to the scene. At 9:25 p.m. fire crews found him in the water, dead. The Noble County Coroner’s Office said they will release details on his death at a later time.
Deputies said Cassidy had outstanding felony warrants for dealing methamphetamine, neglect of a dependent and a misdemeanor charge of visiting a common nuisance.
