FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A SAC newcomer and perennial conference powerhouse captured the SAC Holiday Tournament titles on Saturday.
The Homestead Spartans defeated South Side 100-40 to win their first ever SAC Holiday Tournament Championship.
Led by Karissa McLaughlin’s 27 points, the Spartans set a new school record for points scored in a game. Jazmyne Geist scored 18 points, Madisen Parker had 13, Tomi Taiwo had 11, and Lindley Kistler scored 10.
South Side was led by Taniece Chapman who had 15 points.
The win marks the second time this season Homestead has beaten a SAC opponent by 60 or more points.
In the boys game later in the evening North Side outlasted Carroll in OT winning their third straight SAC Holiday Tournament with a 58-54 win.
With the game tied at 50 points in the final minute of regulation North Side missed two shots to send the game to overtime. The Redskins outscored the Chargers 8-4 in OT to come out on top.
North Side was led by Keion Brooks Jr. who had 15 points. Juan Quarles and Davonate Kinnie also reached double-digits with 11 points and 10 points respectively.
Jacob Redding led the game with 18 points for Carroll followed by Kyle Mallers who scored 16.
Saturday night’s game marked the first time since 1976 a SAC Holiday Championship game has gone to overtime. North Side’s win also made them the third straight team to win three SAC Holiday tournaments in a row.
