The suspect, Anthony Gant, 43, was shot by Officer Daniel L. Hartman on the evening of August 23 after he and other officers had responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Dollar General store located at 3121 East State Boulevard. Officers had surrounded the store when Gant and another suspect, Christopher D. Johnson, 31, ran out the front door according to information provided by authorities at the time. Police never explained what prompted Hartman to fire on Gant, who survived the shooting.

Johnson was captured by officers as he tried to run away. He and Gant were considered suspects in other robberies at Dollar General and similar stores.

Gant’s criminal case is still pending.
