Reports: $500,000 taken from armored truck in Detroit

DETROIT (AP) — Police are investigating the reported theft of more than a half-million dollars from an armored truck parked in downtown Detroit.

The Detroit Free Press reports that someone wearing a security guard’s shirt grabbed several bags of cash containing more than $500,000 about 8 a.m. from the rear of the truck in the Greektown entertainment district.

No one was injured in the theft.

Detroit Assistant Police Chief Steve Dolunt tells The Detroit News that “it looks like the suspect just walked away.”

Dolunt told the Free Press that the FBI is taking the lead on the case.
