FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – For the fourth time in the last eight years Bishop Dwenger will play for a state title at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The Saints (13-1) are set to face East Central (12-2) for the 4A state title at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Dwenger is coming off a 41-7 victory over South Bend St. Joseph at semi-state last Friday. Quarterback Blake Podschlne threw for 170 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 105 yards and two scores. Junior running back Amaun Clark rushed for 99 yards and a score as well.
The Saints will face an East Central team that defeated Roncalli last week 21-0. In that game the Trojans defense yielded just 59 yards of total offense to Roncalli. Quarterback Luke Patton rushed 29 times for 132 yards while Doug Russmeyer toted the ball 16 times for 78 yards.
A win would give Dwenger the program’s fourth state title and first since 1991. Saturday marks Dwenger’s eighth appearance at state – the Saints won in 1983, 1990, and 1991 and finished as runner up in 2002, 2008, 2010, and 2013.
