(Toledo, OH) A standing room only crowd of 8,000 watched the Walleye rack up a high score on 8-Bit night by beating Fort Wayne 6-4 Saturday night. Toledo has an overall record of 7-5-0-3 and is 1-1-0-1 at home.
The Komets struck quickly with a pair of goals in the first 9:34 of the first period. Toledo got on the scoreboard when Marek Tvrdon (6th) watched as his pass deflected into the Fort Wayne net at 10:51 of the first. Toledo’s power play tied the game when Joel Chouinard fed a perfect pass to Tyler Sikura who finished a breakaway for his 3rd goal of the year.
Toledo took the lead at 18:15 of the first period when Kyle Bonis (4th) wristed a shot into the top right corner of the net. Fort Wayne evened the score at 1:08 of the second period with a power play goal. Josh Shalla (2nd) capped a two on one break for the Walleye at 2:17 to give Toledo a 4-3 lead.
Another Walleye power play from Alden Hirschfeld (8th) at 6:14 opened up a two goal lead. The Komets closed to within a goal at 5-4 with the second goal of the night from Brett Perlini at 4:31 of the third period. Fort Wayne outshot Toledo 14-5 in the final period but Kyle Bonis scored an empty net goal at 18:48 to close out a 6-4 win.
