FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The Voices of Unity youth choir launched its fundraising campaign for a two-week European concert and competition tour today, and promptly received major contributions.
The youth choir established a $1 million goal for the tour, which would cover the planning, the tour, post-tour performances, programming and future projects.
The choir has made a dent in that figure. Tim and Libby Ash Family Foundation Inc. presented the choir with a $100,000 gift, and Sweetwater Sound owner Chuck Surack contributed $50,000.
“We are incredibly grateful for such generous support for the young people in Voices of Unity,” said Unity Founder and CEO Marshall White. “This tour, much like our experiences in the last three World Choir Games, will introduce the young people of Voices of Unity to rare cultural learning opportunities and those opportunities will serve as an empowering springboard for developing future community leaders.”
The 80-member Voices of Unity choir will depart in June for Europe, with performances scheduled in Italy, Austria and Hungary as well as the Vatican.
