No. 4 Saint Francis Will Face NAIA Newcomer Reinhardt To Start Postseason

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Reinhardt University will be the first challenge for the fourth-ranked University of Saint Francis in the opening round of the 2015 NAIA Football Championship series this Saturday, Nov. 21, at noon at Bishop D’Arcy Stadium.

Plans for ticket sales will be announced on Monday.

The Eagles finished No. 12 in the NAIA Top 25, also released Sunday afternoon, after finishing the regular season with a an overall 9-1 record, 4-1 in the Mid-South Conference West Division behind champion Campbellsville (KY). RU is located in Waleska, Ga. This is RU’s first appearance in the NAIA FCS. RU was the No. 5 At-Large selection.

RU rose as high as No. 7 in the NAIA Top 25 with an 8-0 record. The Eagles tumbled to No. 13 after losing at Campbellsville (KY) 70-56 on Nov. 7. RU led 28-7 and still 35-21 before losing its first game of the season to eventual MSC West Division champion CU. The Eagles bounced back for win No. 9 with a 70-36 decision on Saturday over Bethel University (TN). It was the seventh time this season RU has scored 50 or more points. This is RU’s third season, the first under the guidance of first-year head coach Drew Cronic.

USF moved up to No. 4 in the 10th NAIA regular-season Coaches’ Top 25, the Cougars highest finish since 2008 when USF finished No. 3. The Cougars are making their 15th NAIA FCS appearance in the 18-year existence of the football program and USF is 21-14, the most wins in the 16-team field. USF is 12-2 in NAIA FCS first round games, 10-0 at home, and has won 11 consecutive first round games.

USF finished 9-0 after a 64-6 win at Missouri Baptist University on Saturday. The win secured the Cougars their 12thMid-States Football Association Mideast League title, their 10th outright MEL title and the ninth unbeaten MEL season at 6-0. This was USF’s seventh unbeaten team during the regular season, the first since 2008 when USF finished 10-0.

The USF defense tied an NAIA record on Saturday at MBU when senior safety Cale Tabler intercepted a pass and returned it for a 40-yard touchdown. It was USF’s seventh INT return for a TD this season and it ties the record set by Findlay University (OH) in 1995.
