Candy BuyBack options supply soldiers with sweets

Many orthodontists and dentists will trade Halloween candy for cash.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Orthodontist and dentist offices around the country are participating in “Candy BuyBack” programs. It’s an invitation to trade in Halloween candy for a good cause. Candy turned in at three different offices in the area will end up in the hands of soldiers overseas.

  • Angela Becker Orthodontics, located at 4638 W Jefferson Blvd.

The orthodontic office will buy back candy for one dollar per pound. In addition to that, when a child turns in their candy, the office will also donate one dollar to their school. Angela Becker Orthodontics started donating candy to troops in 2004. Since then, her office has donated more than 900 pounds of candy.

Hours to bring in candy: 8 a.m.to 4 p.m. through Thursday

  • Kool Smiles Dental Office, located at 1852 Bluffton Rd.

Children can get one toy for every 25 pieces of unopened candy in its original intended packaging. The program is open to everyone, regardless of whether they are Kool Smiles patients. There is a limit of three toys per child and toys are distributed on a first come, first served basis.

Hours to bring in candy: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Wednesday

Both Angela Becker Orthodontics and Kool Smiles send candy overseas through an organization called Operation Gratitude.

Many orthodontists and dentists will trade Halloween candy for cash.

  • Lima Road Dentistry, located at 9019 Lima Rd

The dentist’s office will buy back candy for a dollar per pound and send that candy to soldiers in the Middle East. Anyone who knows of someone serving in the military can contact the office with an address for a care package to be sent.

Hours to bring in candy: 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday
