IPFW Set To Host Mastodon Madness

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The third annual IPFW Mastodon Madness sponsored by Meijer and Evans Toyota is on Thursday, October 29 inside the Gates Sports Center. Admission is free to everyone, as the event kicks off at 6 p.m. where the first 500 fans through the doors receive a commemorative bobblehead. Fans will have an opportunity to win several prizes throughout the night including four tickets to the premier of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens for the best Star Wars costume.

Mastodon Madness is a chance for the Fort Wayne community to meet the players on the 2015-16 basketball teams and show their support for the ‘Dons. There will be free food in the Athletic Center Fieldhouse brought to you by Jamison Meats, Flowers Bakery, and Shigs In Pit starting at 6 p.m.

The Gates Center doors open at 6:30 p.m. as the evening’s entertainment begins with performances by the IPFW pep band and cheerleaders, before introductions of the men’s and women’s basketball teams. Men’s head coach Jon Coffmanand women’s head coach Chris Paul will address the fans and talk about their upcoming seasons.

The first fan contest of the night will see one lucky fan have the opportunity to make a half-court shot brought to you by Evans Toyota.

The Meijer head-to-head three-point contest with have one player from the men’s and women’s team competing to win a gift card for a selected fan. The Evans Toyota team three-point competition will have two teams consisting of a men’s player, women’s player, and a member of the Blue Crew. The winning Blue Crew member will receive a special gift card pack.

Star Wars will make an appearance at Mastodon Madness as Peter Franklin Jewelers will sponsor a Star Wars costume contest. The best costume will win four tickets to the premier of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens at Carmike Cinemas.

Additionally, there will be a kids costume contest where the judges will select the top three costumes before the crowd picks the final winner. All kids participating in the costume contest will receive a special Halloween treat.

The final event of the night will be the Applebee’s slam dunk contest. Four lucky fans will be paired with a men’s player, with the winning player’s fan walking away with a gift card.

The night will wind down with an autograph session from the players of both the men’s and women’s basketball teams.
