Driver improving after crash with dump trucks

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A woman critically injured after crashing into a dump trunk, then another, Monday morning was upgraded to serious condition Tuesday morning.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department has not yet identified the woman.

Police were called just after 7 a.m. Monday to the intersection of Hillegas Road near Bass Road on a report of a crash there.

Officials said the woman was driving a Ford Crown Victoria northbound on Hillegas when for an unknown reason the car veered into the southbound lane and struck a dump truck. A second dump truck following the first one then ran over the front of the car, according to the sheriff’s department.

The driver of the car was taken by ambulance to a hospital in critical condition. Neither of the two dump truck drivers was injured.

Hillegas Road between Illinois and Bass roads was closed for several hours as a result of the crash.
