2 killed as Clinton County home catches fire, explodes

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Two people died after a Clinton County house caught fire and exploded.

Perry Township Fire Chief Tracy Rose would not identify the two victims of the fire, which was reported about 3:15 p.m. Friday by motorists on Interstate 65.

Rose says that as the first fire truck was arriving, the house exploded.

Rose says he knows the identities of the victims but would not release their names until family members were notified.

An autopsy is scheduled Saturday in Lafayette.

Six fire departments helped Perry Township at the scene. Crews were still on site at 9 p.m. Friday. Officials from the state fire marshal’s office also were there.
