Neglect charge for babysitter of drowned boy

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The original version of this story incorrectly stated that the boy had drowned during the course of a four hour bath.

Eric R. Patten, 35, faces a single neglect of a dependent charge, a level one felony, for a July 5 incident involving the drowning of a boy that authorities determined had been left under his care.

A probable cause affidavit was filed in Allen Superior Court on Wednesday, October 21, 2015. The document indicated Patten had been watching his girlfriend’s two children while she was at work when the incident took place. His initial court appearance took place on October 23 and an order for monitored conditional release was issued on October 27.  A hearing has been scheduled for December 21, 2015.
