FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The driver of a moped is in critical condition after a crash early Thursday morning.
Police were called to the 700 block of Taylor Street around 1:30 a.m. for a reported crash.
Officers found a man and a crashed moped in the street.
Paramedics took the man to the hospital in serious condition, but hospital doctors downgraded his condition to critical.
Investigators said the man appeared to have lost control and hit a curb. He fell off the moped, but the bike continued forward for about another 50 feet. A helmet was found near the moped, but investigators aren’t sure the driver was wearing it at the time of the crash.
No other vehicles were involved.
Investigators said it’s unclear if alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.
Taylor Street was closed between Oakley Street and Fox Avenue while police collected evidence and reconstructed the crash.
The incident is under investigation.
