Police are investigating a crash at Maplecrest and Stellhorn.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified a victim of a crash early Thursday morning. Megan Jo Shields, 27, of Fort Wayne was pronounced dead as a result of blunt force trauma.

Police were called to the intersection of Stellhorn and Maplecrest roads around 6:15 a.m. for a crash involving a pickup truck and a small car.

Investigators said the car was heading west on Stellhorn when the driver attempted to turn left onto Maplecrest. A pickup truck traveling east struck the car when it turned.

According to the coroner’s report, Shields was the passenger of the car and was not wearing a seat belt.

Police have not said who might have failed to yield. The driver of the car and the pickup truck were not hurt.

Traffic restrictions on both Maplecrest and Stellhorn were in place while police investigated the crash. The intersection was reopened around 8:30 a.m., officials said.

Investigators have not indicated if there is a reason to believe the crash was alcohol related. The crash is under investigation. Sheilds’ death has been ruled an accident. This is the 25th traffic fatality for Allen County in 2015.
