Teen killed by felled tree

FREMONT, Ind. (WANE) A Fremont teenager was killed Tuesday when a tree fell atop him.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department said 16-year-old Colin Book, a 10th¬grader at Fremont High School, was part of a tree crew working on a site in the 8700 East block of 700 North, near the St. Paul’s Catholic Chapel, when a felled tree landed on him around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday.

The sheriff’s department said Book was unresponsive when police and medics arrived at the scene. He was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office, then, pronounced Book dead. He died of blunt force trauma, the office said.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the incident. Officials there provided no other information.
