FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – 2A no. 3 Canterbury and 2A no. 19 Leo will play for the regional title in boys soccer on Saturday at Carroll High School as both the Cavalier and Lions advanced with semifinals wins on Thursday night.
In the first game of the night 2A no. 19 Leo and South Side battled to a scoreless tie at the end of regulation. In the first half of overtime Leo’s Austin Perez found the net in the 84th minute to give Leo a 1-0 lead. Truman Morin would add to the lead in the 90th minute as the Lions would go on to defeat the Archers 2-0.
Cameron Manning tallied four saves to earn the shutout for Leo.
In the late game 2A no. 3 Canterbury bested Homestead 3-0. Logan Lee’s first-half goal in the 26th minute gave the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead at intermission. Cruz Garcia would score in the 53rd minute while Lee would net his second goal of the night in the 74th as Canterbury went on to win 3-0.
Clayton Perry recorded four saves to earn the shutout for Canterbury.
Leo and Canterbury will play for the regional title at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
In 1A regional semifinal play at Whitko High School both Heritage and Blackhawk Christian advanced with victories.
Heritage topped Lakewood Park 2-1 while 1A no. 13 Blackhawk Christian edged 1A no. 14 Westview 1-0.
Heritage and Blackhawk will play for the regional title at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
