FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – With Kaleigh Schrock retiring in the off-season the Komets were in search of a new player to wear the “C” on their black and orange sweater.
That player will be veteran forward Jamie Schaafsma, who was tabbed as team captain on Thursday.
This will be Schaafsma’s first year in Fort Wayne – the Komets open the season Friday at Kalamazoo – but he has championship experience. Schaafsma helped lead the Allen Americans last season, bringing home the Kelly Cup.
Last season Schaafsma played in 72 regular season games with Allen, tallying 17 goals and 32 assists. He netted five goals in 25 playoff games.
The 32-year old Schaafsma is a native of Chatham, Ontario.
