Police release photo of gas station thefts suspect

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Fort Wayne police have released a surveillance photo of one of the two men believed to be involved in a series of thefts from vehicles at gas stations.

The thefts have taken place while the victims, all women, have been pumping gas. An older black man with glasses is one of the suspects as well as a thin white man who has been with him on at least one occasion. The photo released Monday by police is of the white man.

Typically the thief employs a distraction technique such as asking for directions to allow him to take a purse or wallet from the vehicle. There have been two descriptions of the vehicle used by the suspects. One is a gold Ford Taurus or similar car or a four-door sedan of which no color was specified.

The thefts have taken place at the following locations:

6736 Lima Rd, 09/28/15, 4:55 p.m.
Location: Sam’s Club gas station.
Stolen: purse, cash, credit cards.

7008 Bluffton Rd, 09/20/15, 9:00 p.m.
Location: Kroger Gas Station.
Stolen: wallet (on front seat); vehicle occupied by two small children.

3220 Anthony Blvd N, 09/07/15, 4:30 p.m.
Location: Wendy’s / BP Gas station lot
Stolen: purse + contents. (purse recovered at Delaware & Florida shortly afterwards)
Suspect: m/w/30-39; looked like a “meth addict”; (he asked for diretions).

7502 Southtown Crossing, 09/30/15, 4:20 p.m.
Location: Murphy Gas station.
Stolen: purse, cash, credit cards, cell phone.
