Komets Open Camp To Begin 2015-16 Season

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The 2015-16 season is here for Fort Wayne hockey fans as the Komets held their annual preseason press conference Monday afternoon and opened training camp later that day.

Head coach Gary Graham returns for his third season leading the Komets.

Other returnees from last season include goaltender Pat Nagle, forward Shawn Szydlowski, and defensemen Cody Sol and Drew Daniels. Forwards Dean Ouellet and Leo Thomas – who have played for the Komets before – are also back in the black and orange. Newcomers expected to make a big impact include forwards Jamie Schaafsma and Alex Belzile.

Earlier this summer the Komets and the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche announced a renewed affiliation with a new two-year agreement covering 2015-16 and 2016-17.  The Komets and the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL will serve as affiliates of the Avalanche. Last year San Antonio captured the West Division title in the AHL’s Western Conference while setting franchise records of wins, goals and points in a season.  Last season the Komets reached the 100-point plateau for the first time since 2009-10 for a successful debut as an affiliate of Colorado.

The Komets play their first exhibition game on Wednesday at the Indy Fuel. They host Evansville for exhibition games on Friday and Saturday. The regular season opener is Friday, October 16 at Kalamazoo with the home opener set for the next day against the K-Wings.
