MONROEVILLE, Ind. (WANE) – Early in the season, the Heritage volleyball team watched the movie “When The Game Stands Tall.” The Lady Patriots took away a special message from the film.
“Always give a perfect effort,” senior Makalah Krick told WANE-TV. “The message stuck with us.”
Heritage’s “perfect effort” has led them to a perfect 4-0 record in the ACAC. Overall they are 18-3, ranked 11th the Class 3A.
The Patriots are led this season by seven seniors. Head Coach Steve Walter says that senior leadership has gotten every player to buy into the program.
One of the most inspirational players on the team is junior Jessica Dodane. Her father, Chris Dodane, passed away during the first week of the season. Jessica did not miss a beat, giving it her all at every practice and scrimmage. She told Coach Walter that her father would want her to keep fighting on the court.
Dodane and the rest of the Patriots will have a chance to win their first ACAC title since 2007 when they play Jay County on Thursday. Those Patriots are also 4-0, making Thursday’s match the conference championship.
