LEESBURG, Ind. (WANE) A Fort Wayne man was arrested on a felony charge after the ski boat he was driving hit a fishing boat with two people in it at 2:00 a.m. Sunday on Lake Tippecanoe in Kosciusko County.
Dominic Fisher, 32, of Milford and Tiffany Fugate, 22, of Auburn were sitting in a 15-foot aluminum fishing boat when a 21-foot ski boat driven by David Vie, 39, of Fort Wayne ran over the craft according to Indiana Conservation Officers with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The ski boat’s propeller nearly severed Fisher’s leg. Fugate was struck in the head by the bow of the ski boat. Fisher was able to apply a makeshift tourniquet to his leg which officers say probably saved his life. Vie helped pull Fisher from the water after he pleaded for help. Fisher was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital in serious condition. Fugate was taken by ambulance to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment.
Vie was arrested for Operating a Motorboat While Intoxicated Resulting in Serious Injury and was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail.
Investigating Officers found Dominic’s pants wrapped in the propeller of the ski boat.
