FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -This week’s Highlight Zone “Play of the Week” comes from Woodlan’s Jack Rhoades. With 1:44 left in the game, the sophomore took off for a 24 yard touchdown run that put the Warriors in front for the first time of the game. Woodlan wound up winning the regional championship game over Winchester 29-26 thanks to Rhoades’ touchdown run.
Week 12: Bellmont’s Caleb Hankenson, who took off for a 68 yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage. The Braves, shocking Bishop Luers 28-7 win in the sectional championship
Week 11: Money Woods of Snider dodged defenders left and right to score his second touchdown of the game against Goshen. Woods finished with 119 yards and three touchdowns as Snider topped Goshen 42-10.
Week 10: Ohio State commit Austin Mack of Bishop Luers returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown as the Knights took down Northwestern 82-52 to advance to the 3A sectional semifinals. The play set the tone for a game that set a new IHSAA record for combined points in a playoff game.
Week 9: Woodlan’s Mitchell VanBrocklin and the Warrior defense stopped a two point conversion with 16 seconds left in regulation to earn a 21-20 win over previously unbeaten Adams Central, clinching Woodlan’s first ACAC title since 1996.
Week 8: Bishop Dwenger’s Zack Norton hauls in a 19 yard touchdown pass from Blake Podchlne. That catch would give the Saints a 20-17 win over Snider and put them in the drivers seat in the SAC championship race.
Week 7: Leo’s Trenton Bonner who shook off a couple of Vikings defenders and tip-toed into the endzone for a 23 yard touchdown run to for Leo’s first touchdown of the game.
Week 6: DeKalb’s Will Chrisman. A huge play-maker for the Barons, he made an incredible one-handed catch for one of his three touchdowns in the game to lift DeKalb to a 46-21 win over Huntington North.
Week 5: Leo’s Trenton Bonner who ran back a 79-yard run against East Noble in the second quarter. The touchdown put the Lions up 21-0.
Week 4: Carroll’s Aidan Smith helps start a rally for his Chargers with a 19 yard touchdown run scored by the tip of his toe. Carroll went on to complete the comeback with a 31-24 win over Homestead,
Week3: Bishop Dwenger’s Amaun Clark who dodges a couple of Homestead tacklers, plows over another, and then dives at the pylon for a touchdown. The Saints went on to win the game, 35-14.
Week 2: Garrett’s Ben Purdy makes a spectacular one-handed grab to help lift the Railroaders top DeKalb, 24-21.
Week 1: Carroll’s Aidan Smith scrambles for a nine-yard touchdown run against Northrop, to help the Chargers win their SAC opener 48-14.
