Basement fire chases 7 residents, damages home

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Seven residents escaped an early morning basement fire that left a southeast-side home with minor damage Monday.

Fort Wayne Fire Department crews were called just before 6:30 a.m. to a home at 4902 Plaza Drive and arrived to find moderate smoke rising from the home.

Firefighters found a fire in the basement of the home. It took about seven minutes to get the blaze under control.

The home sustained minor fire, smoke and water damage.

Seven residents, including five children, escaped from the home before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.

The fire department said the fire remains under investigation.
