The preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Dustin Rutledge determined that Alondre Randles, 33, of Elkhart was driving a semi-tractor, pulling an empty box trailer, eastbound on State Road 16 when he stopped for a stop sign at the intersection with State Road 15. Randles then proceeded across State Road 15. The semi-tractor’s trailer was hit broadside by a northbound 1992 Ford Econoline van. The van was driven by Holden Wiley, 25, of Wabash. The van was not required to stop at the intersection.

Wiley was transported to a Ft. Wayne hospital with a severe arm and leg injury. Randles was not injured. Both drivers were wearing a seat belt, which Trooper Rutledge believes prevented more serious injuries in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation, but at this time neither drugs nor alcohol is suspected as having contributed to the crash.

Randles was issued a citation for failure to yield to cross traffic.
