VAN WERT COUNTY, Ohio (WANE) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is looking for four people who ran from a crash scene north of Van Wert Thursday evening.

According to OSHP, the driver of a car ran a stop sign on Elm Sugar Road and collided with a vehicle traveling on U.S. 127. The collision sent one car into a nearby field. The driver of that car, Karen Clark, 69 Van Wert, was pinned inside the vehicle. Scott firefighters removed Clark from the vehicle and she was taken to a hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

The crash was reported shortly after 7 p.m.

OSHP said witnesses told them the driver of the other car and three passengers ran into a nearby corn field. Police have not been able to identify the driver or any passengers who took off.

An OSHP helicopter, law enforcement from Van Wert and Paulding County and several nearby residents assisted with an hours-long search, however no one was located.

Police do not know why the individual took off and are asking anyone with information to contact the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol at (419) 238-3055.

The crash is under investigation.
