Fort Wayne, Ind (WANE) – Those who have donated items to the Mustard Seed Furniture Bank or who have or attended one of its events have a picture of what it is that they do. For the uninitiated, the concept may be new, but it’s an easy one to understand. Essentially it serves families and individuals who have experienced a personal tragedy or some kind of disaster from which they have lost many of the items that make a house a home. The furniture bank works with social service agencies to link up with those in need and provide living, dining and bedroom furniture, blankets, towels and kitchen household items. They accept all of these items as donations as well in order to serve the community.
The annual Charity Dinner and Auction is a way that the furniture bank reaches out to the community, and each year they choose a theme. This year the theme is Celebrations; and the idea expressed is that when one has a cozy, furnished home, one is more likely to open it up to friends and family for celebratory events. The October 15 event will certainly reflect that celebratory theme with a catered dinner, silent and live auctions and a special word about how one person has taken the mission of the Mustard Seed Furniture Bank to heart. It will be held at the University of Saint Francis Performing Arts Center. Tickets may be purchased online or by phone at 260-471-5802 Ext. 100. WANE-TV NewsChannel 15 First News Anchor Pat Hoffmann and 15 Finds Out Investigative Reporter, Alyssa Ivanson will emcee the program.
