Bike hub, wellness center to open in Ash building

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A new bike hub and wellness center will go into the Ash Brokerage building downtown, making living, working and commuting to downtown more convenient.

The 10,000 square foot space will be located off of Harrison Street on the first floor and will offer a bike hub off the parking garage that will store up to 116 bicycles and a store with Fort Wayne Outfitters’ merchandise.

“It’s kind of a new cool thing for Fort Wayne and we’re really modeling it after the Indy YMCA bike hub,” said Marty Pastura, President and CEO of YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne.

Downtown’s new bike hub will be modeled off of Indianapolis’ bike hub.

There will also be a YMCA wellness center open to members.

“We’re a little busting at the seams there at that [central branch] location. We thought that this would be a great annex for the working population and the people who are living downtown to have another location,” said Pastura.

It’ll feature fitness equipment, free weights, an exercise studio, spinning room, men’s and women’s locker rooms and showers. Along with that, Parkview Health and the YMCA will offer a physical therapy clinic.

“This is just another way that we can be part of the fabric of our community and I’m very excited about this opportunity, just serving in a different way,” said Pastura.

The bike hub and wellness center are set to be completed in April.

The YMCA isn’t sure how much the fees will be, but said they want to make them affordable.

The parking garage is scheduled to be finished in December.

The residential component of this building has been up in the air since Bill Bean backed out about a year ago. According to John Perlich, spokesperson for the city, they’re working with a developer on the final details.
