KENDALLVILLE, Ind. (WANE) – Indiana Conservation Officers have identified a man who drowned in Bixler Lake in Kendallville Tuesday afternoon.
Dwayne Sparkman, 52, of Kendallville, died of drowning, the Noble County Coroners Office ruled.
A person called 911 shortly after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and reported a person swimming near the southwest side of the lake. The caller indicated the person in the water was calling for help. The witness also said the person went underwater and did not resurface.
Conservation officers and other emergency personnel searched the area with a side-scan sonar device. Divers were also in the water but were unable to immediately locate anyone.
Officers eventually located Sparkman’s body shortly before midnight. He was wearing underwear, a black tee shirt and a blue hooded sweatshirt, the conservation office reported.
Conservation officers and members of the Indiana Search and Response Team combined to recover Sparkman’s body.
