Motorcyclist injured in Noble County crash

NOBLE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) A motorcyclist was critically injured Wednesday after police say he rear-ended a vehicle on U.S. 6 in Noble County.

Police and medics were called around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday to U.S. 6 near the intersection with 1050 West on a report of a rear-end crash there.

Investigators found that a Honda Civic driven by Derek Barth, 44, of Kimmel had been eastbound on the highway when he slowed because a vehicle in front of him was turning onto 1050 West. A Honda motorcycle behind him did not notice Barth’s deceleration, police said, and slammed into the back of the Civic.

Lance McFarren, 58, of Ligonier, was thrown from his motorcycle. He suffered severe head trauma in the crash and was airlifted to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne in critical condition. Police said he was not wearing a helmet.

Barth was not injured in the crash.
