LEO, Ind. (WANE) – The Leo Lions are used to reigning the ACAC, winning the conference title in 2014. This year they’ll have a new challenge ahead of them as they join the new Northeast 8.
Leo along with Huntington North join six NHC schools in the new conference. With eight straight winning seasons, the Lions are going in as the team to beat this season.
The Lions are led by a hungry pack of 22 seniors. Quarterback, Kray Klopfenstein, is back under center for Leo after taking home second team All-ACAC last season. The senior has 1,384 yards with 17 touchdowns in 2014, He’ll have targets Gunner Brown and Zach Sauer to throw to and Tyler Hensinger leading the ground game.
The bread and butter for Leo in the past has been their dominant defense, who collected three shutouts last season and only allowed more than 20 points once. Returning is senior all-state linebacker, Joe Lanbright along with linemen Jajuan Allen, both of whom were named to the 4A Preseason All-State team by Indiana Football Digest.
Looking beyond their conference, the Lions have not taken home a sectional title since 2011. They came two points shy of a trip to regionals last year falling 9-7 to Northridge last season. Getting back to regionals is one of the goals for the Leo Lions in 2015.
Leo opens up the season at South Bend Riley.
