Vehicles collide after driver makes rolling stop

DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) Two people were hospitalized after a crash in DeKalb County Thursday morning.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, Charles W. Powers, 71, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky was driving on CR 36 at the intersection of CR 19 around 10:46 a.m. He told investigators he made a rolling stop and failed to see a car approaching. The driver of the car, Jacob Pilnock, 18, of Albion swerved but was unable to avoid hitting Powers.

Powers’ vehicle was pushed into a yard nearby. Pilnock’s car just barely missed hitting a tree, according to police.

Pilnock and his passenger were both transported to a hospital in Fort Wayne. Police said Pilnock was injured on his chest from the seatbelt and the passenger had a concussion.

Powers was taken to a hospital in DeKalb County with a leg injury. He was also cited for disregarding a stop sign.

Police estimate a total of $10,000 in damages between the two cars.
