Police: Man killed in Muncie standoff aimed gun at officers

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Police say a man who barricaded himself in a garage in a standoff with Muncie police set the structure on fire before jumping from its second-story window and being fatally shot.

Muncie Police Chief Steve Stewart says 35-year-old Shawn Michael Ruble pointed his handgun at police after exiting the garage Monday. Stewart says two officers shot Ruble and “immediately began rendering medical aid.” Ruble later died at a hospital.

The (Muncie) Star Press (http://tspne.ws/1g3WbWv ) reports the standoff began when parole officers arrived at the home Monday afternoon to investigate Ruble’s possible role in a vehicle theft in Blackford County. The parole agents said Ruble pointed a gun at them and ran into the garage.

The incident is under investigation by Muncie police and Indiana State Police.
