FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Homestead will be the new kid on the block in 2015 as the Spartans, along with Carroll, will now compete in the SAC.
The Spartans return fourteen starters – seven on each side of the ball – giving head coach Chad Zolman a fair amount of experience.
While Homestead must replace quarterback Logan Ormsby – a starter for the past two seasons – the Spartans have many key players returning at the skill positions as senior Garrett Drysdale and junior Drew Keszei battle for the QB job. Leading the charge is Northwestern-bound senior receiver Ben Skowronek (42 receptions, 841 yards, 12 TDs in 2014). Fellow receivers Jonah Watson and Austin Krider provide depth while Landon Durnell (498 rushing yards) and Moses Girardot will take charge in the backfield.
Defensively, junior safety Matt Anderson will be looked at to lead the unit. As a sophomore last fall Anderson racked up 10 interceptions and 120 tackles. Girardot and Hunter Terrell will also be leaders among the linebacking corp.
The Spartans open the season August 21 at Concordia.
