Gunmen get away after Indy police return gunfire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) –  According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, five people were hurt in a police action shooting just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

When police responded to a disturbance in the 1200 block of Indiana Avenue, there were over 150 people at a party at apartments in that area.

Police entered the apartment complex, and several men began shooting. Officers returned fire and the suspects were struck. However, the gunmen managed to escape the building through another exit, leaving their guns behind at the scene.

Two people were transported a hospital in stable condition. Police later learned three others, individuals involved the shooting, went to another hospital.

Their vehicle was secured and searched.

The two officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure for any officer-involved shooting investigation.
