FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The new fixed based operations service at Fort Wayne International Airport announced the hiring of a general manager Monday.
Jeff Van Slyke will lead Fort Wayne Aero Center when it launches Jan. 1, 2016. Van Slyke officially began work today.
Fort Wayne Aero Center will provide aircraft fueling, tie-down and parking, hangar rental, and other aeronautical services to the airport’s commercial carriers and general aviation users. With 28 years of aviation experience, Van Slyke will oversee a staff of roughly 20 at the FBO’s general manager, the airport said.
“We look forward to having Jeff on board as we enter a new chapter of aviation services at FWA,” said Scott Hinderman, executive director of Airports for the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority. “We have no doubt his skills and experience will mold Fort Wayne Aero Center into a friendly and efficient FBO the region’s users will be proud of.”
Van Slyke previously served as the training and health, safety and environment supervisor Air Service International Group, the main fueler for Southwest Airlines and Virgin America Airlines. He’s also worked at FBOs at Los Angeles International Airport, in Tel-Aviv, Israel, and at Reno/Tahoe International Airport as the Department of Defense contractor for transient government aircraft.
“I’m really excited to get started,” said Van Slyke. “I love being involved in a new line of business and watching things grow, starting a first-class operation in Fort Wayne from the ground up. The region has a lot to look forward to at Fort Wayne Aero Center.
“I’ve never felt more welcome in Fort Wayne and in my career. I can’t wait to be a part of this community.”
