Driver runs from stolen vehicle after crashing into building

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The driver of a stolen vehicle eluded police after it crashed into a Fort Wayne business early Monday morning.

Earlier Monday police received a report of a stolen vehicle. Shortly before 5 a.m. the vehicle was spotted near East State Boulevard and Crescent Avenue by an FWPD officer.

Police said the vehicle was driving north in an alley at a high rate of speed when it cross State Boulevard. The vehicle then skipped a curb and crashed into the brick porch of “The 1121 Salon,” 1121 East State Blvd.

One officer said the driver bailed from the vehicle moments before the crash. Police and a K-9 officer searched the surrounding neighborhoods looking for the suspect. A suspect description was not available from police Monday morning.

A passenger in the vehicle did not run and was not hurt.

The incident is under investigation.
