Fire, smoke damage E. State Blvd. businesses

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Three businesses are damaged after a fire on East State Boulevard early Friday morning.

Fire crews were called to 3309 East State Boulevard shortly after 2 a.m. and found heavy smoke billowing from the businesses. Several people in the area called 911 to report the smoke.

Fire officials said they found a small, but hot fire that caused damaged to Michael’s Beauty Supply. Heavy smoke also damaged Big Rick’s BBQ and Pearl’s Palace. Both businesses are connected on opposed sides to Michael’s Beauty Supply.

Firefighters had everything under control in about 30 minutes.

A fire department report said fire and water damage was minimal, but all three businesses suffered heavy smoke damage.

One employee inside Big Rick’s was able to safely escape. Big Rick’s BBQ just opened for business a couple of months ago.

All three businesses were closed for the night and all three businesses will remain closed pending an inspection by the Board of Health.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire.
