Guilty plea in drunk driving triple fatal

WELLS COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) A drunk driver who killed three people on April 4, 2015 when he crossed the centerline on State Road 1 and hit another vehicle head on has pleaded guilty according to a news release issued by Wells County Prosecutor Andrew J. Carnall.

Anthony W. Dager pleaded guilty Wednesday to three felony counts of causing death while operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. His blood alcohol level was .16, which is twice the legal limit.

Rebecca R. Prentice was driving the vehicle hit by Dager. Prentice, along with her two passengers, Paul E. Penrod and Karen S. Smith died in the crash.

Wells Circuit Court Judge Kenton W. Kiracofe has accepted Dager’s plea and he will be sentenced on August 6.

The judge can impose any sentence he deems appropriate. Each felony count carries a prison sentence of two to 12 years, so Dager could be sentenced to anywhere between two and 36 years depending on whether the counts are served consecutively or concurrently.
