FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Hundreds of employees and several public officials came out to celebrate Do It Best Corp’s 70th anniversary Wednesday.
Do It Best’s world headquarters are on Nelson Road just outside New Haven. In the 1930s, Arnold Gerberding was working as a buyer in a Fort Wayne hardware store when he came up with the idea to bring the co-op model to his industry. Now the company has more than 3,800 members across the United States and in 54 other countries.
“This is a time for us to look backwards, but to also look forward. You look backwards and say, we’re just really appreciative of the foundation all the retirees and others have built for us, but it provides us a great platform to continue to build in the future and that’s what excites everyone out here today,” Bob Taylor, Do It Best Corp president and CEO, said.
Taylor added that Do It Best is a big part of the Fort Wayne and New Haven communities, employing around 450 people.
