FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne police have arrested a man who apparently was hiding inside a dollar store after-hours.
Police were called to Family Dollar, 2011 Broadway, shortly after midnight Tuesday when an alarm inside the business was tripped.
Officers covered the front and back doors of the business when they arrived. Police said as they entered the front of the building a man went running out the back. The suspect briefly led police on a foot chase before being apprehended.
Investigators believe the man was hiding in the store after it closed around 10 p.m. Monday. It’s unclear if he had any items in his possession as he fled the business.
K-9 officers cleared the store and did not find anyone else inside.
The name of the suspect has not been released. It’s unclear what charges, if any, the man might face.
Police said they do not believe the suspect is connected to a string of armed robberies at dollar stores across the city this year.
