Police: robbery suspect had loaded stolen gun

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  Fort Wayne police took a man into custody Tuesday after witnesses identified him as the person who took cash from a convenience store.

Officers were called to the Phil’s One Stop in the 3500 block of St. Joe Center Road when a hold-up alarm was triggered.

A clerk reported that the man, later identified as Myles Townsend, approached the register and said, “Relax and open the drawer.” He grabbed cash and left the store. When officers got to the convenience store, Townsend was outside talking with an employee.

Police said once they got Townsend into handcuffs, they searched his clothing and found a loaded gun, cash, marijuana, and a digital scale. The Allen County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the gun had been stolen.

The prosecutor’s office will determine what, if any, charges Townsend will face.
