Motorcycle ride raises funds for homeless vets

Engines roared seconds before the Shepard's House Ride started June 13, 2015.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) An organization specifically for patriotic motorcyclists, Freedom Riders, brought out their bikes to support the Shepherd’s House today.

The home, which runs completely on donations, is a place for veterans to stay for up to two years to save money and get their lives on track.

“A lot of the history of motorcycle clubs is from the military… So that’s our connection to military and active military personnel,” Pieter Kraakman with Freedom Riders of Indiana said.

The group partnered with the popular wing restaurant Quaker Stake and Lube, which donated 20 percent of all its sales Saturday to the Shepard’s House.

This was the third year for the event.
