WARSAW, Ind. (WANE) A 20-year-old Leesburg, Indiana man crashed a minivan he stole from the parking lot of the Warsaw Walmart before the owners who were inside shopping even knew it had been taken according to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.

Thursday at around 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a crash at an intersection just south of Leesburg. A man who was running from the scene was quickly captured by officers once they arrived.

Tyler Scott Boocher has been preliminarily charged with felony auto theft, illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, operator never licensed and failure to stop after an accident. He was also charged with theft for taking items from the vehicle.

Detectives obtained surveillance video from the Walmart that showed Boocher taking the minivan. Because the minivan was not drivable, the owners were driven back to their Whitley County home by a sheriff’s deputy.
