Canterbury’s Maggard Nets Nine Points As Indiana Crushes Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Kent. (AP) – Ali Patberg scored 15 points to lead the Indiana girls All-Star team to a 93-49 win over Kentucky on Friday night.
Patberg, a Notre Dame signee, made 5 of 9 field goals and scored eight points in the first half. Jordyn Frantz (Saint Louis) also had 15 points, followed by Brittany Ward, who will play at Butler this fall, with 10 points. Michigan State signee Jenna Allen added a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds and Michal Miller, who signed with Arizona, also scored 10.
Indiana opened the second half with a 23-6 run, turning a 30-25 lead into a 53-31 advantage with 13:03 remaining.
Kentucky managed just nine field goals and 24 points in the second half as Indiana pulled away for the easy victory. Indiana finished with 11 3-pointers, with eight of those coming in the second half.
“We buckled down defensively, those stops led to transition baskets and once you make a few layups, that basket gets a little bit bigger,” Indiana coach Mark Holt said. “All of the sudden those 15-footers are going in and the 3s are going in. It gets contagious and the basketball finds the net every time.”
Patberg said her team came out with “a lot more energy” in the second half.
“Once we started seeing the ball go through the net, we played really well,” she said.
University of Kentucky signee Morgan Rich led Kentucky with eight points. Kentucky Miss Basketball Maci Morris, also a Kentucky signee, finished with eight points as did Alexis Brewer (West Virginia) and Dee Givens (Western Kentucky).
Canterbury’s Darby Maggard tallied nine points and five assists for Indiana. She has signed to play at Belmont University next fall.
Indiana swept the two games last year and has won three straight and four of the last five games in the series.
