FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A woman who was recently honored for her service as a nurse in England during World War II passed away Thursday morning. Mary “Polly” Lipscomb died in her sleep, just ten days before her 102nd birthday.
Lipscomb recently traveled to Washington D.C. in May on the 16th Honor Flight. She was the oldest veteran to ever go with Honor Flight Northeast Indiana. While there, she received a special honor from a Brigadier General at the Women’s Memorial.
Her son said she loved the trip and it meant a lot to her and her family. He also noted she lived a long and happy life.
