NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Dansby Swanson hit a two-run homer with one out in the ninth inning to give Vanderbilt a 6-4 victory over Indiana in the Nashville Regional on Saturday night.
Swanson, a possible No. 1 overall draft pick on June 8, also fielded Austin Cangelosi’s grounder deep in the hole at shortstop and fired to first base for the first out in the bottom of the ninth — drawing “Dans-by!” chants from the sellout crowd of 3,626.
Vanderbilt (44-19) moved into the championship round of the regional, while Indiana(35-23) faces Radford in an elimination game Sunday.
Ben Bowden (6-1) earned the win with two scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit. Kyle Wright earned his second save, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth.
Indiana reliever Luke Harrison (4-2) took the loss after allowing Swanson’s 14th homer of the season in the ninth.
