Man burned escaping house fire

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man was taken to a hospital in serious condition Saturday afternoon after he was burned escaping a fire at his house.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called to 7032 Elmbrook Drive just after 1:30 p.m. Firefighters said the man was working on a vehicle in his garage. He had removed the fuel tank and was dragging it across the floor when the gas ignited.

The man got out of the garage on his own, but did suffer burns.

The fire extended from the garage into the attic area of the garage and house. It took firefighters 27 minutes to get the fire under control.
