Veterans share memories for Memorial Day

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Veterans gathered at the Old Fort Sunday share their stories for Memorial Day.

Service members from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Golf Wars were in attendance. All the donations from the event will go to Northeast Indiana Honor Flight.

Organizers said it’s important to hear the stories of veterans, especially since many Wold War II veterans are in their late 80s or early 90s.

“Yes, our rights are guaranteed to us in the Constitution, but that guarantee is only as good as the people who stand up and say, ‘Yes, I will protect those rights’ and these are the men and women who have stood up and said, ‘Yes, I will fight for you,'” Kip Lytle, the event organizer, said.

Around 20 volunteers came out to helps with the memorial observance.
